Dear Friends,

I’m writing to you at an auspicious time! Like many of us, I am buoyed by the hope that a brighter future is possible. While there is an immense amount of work to do, we at ASISTA are looking forward to engaging with the Biden-Harris Administration to help make this country safer and more just for immigrant survivors of violence.

My name is Kirsten Rambo, and I am the new Executive Director of ASISTA. I come to ASISTA with 23 years of experience in the field of gender-based violence, having worked in local, state, national and international arenas from Atlanta to California to Malawi. My earliest mentors led organizations dedicated to serving immigrant and refugee survivors, so in many ways, joining the team at ASISTA feels like coming home.

Our founders, Gail Pendleton and Sonia Parras Konrad, created ASISTA to advance the dignity and rights of immigrant survivors of gender-based violence. At times, especially in recent years, the odds have felt incredibly daunting. And yet ASISTA has continued to fight on and to succeed, with a truly exceptional staff—whose expertise is matched only by their passion for this work—and an extremely dedicated and knowledgeable Board of Directors.

Now, we build upon that incredible legacy. We will continue our important work at the individual level, where our assistance with immigration cases helps to transform lives, one by one. At the same time, our national policy and litigation strategies create safer and fairer systems for all immigrant survivors. The movement for racial justice is central to our goals and our values, and we strive to ensure that that commitment shines through in all of our work. Our approach will always be intersectional, holistic, and survivor-centered, and I believe that we are stronger when we work together.

Collaboration is absolutely crucial to our success, and if you’re getting this email, it means we value your input and your partnership. Whether you are a member, a supporter, a partner in our work—or perhaps all three!—we are grateful to call you an ally.

Thank you for all you do for immigrant survivors and for ASISTA. I’m looking forward to working with you to create a safer and more just future, together.

In solidarity,

Kirsten Rambo, Ph.D.
Executive Director
